Edmonton Oilers
Year 1: 5.5M
Year 2: (Player Option) 6.0M
Year 3: (Player Option) 6.5M
Year 4: (Player Option) 7.0M
Year 5: (Player Option) 7.0M
Year 6: (Player Option) 7.0M
- NMC throughout.
- Given the fact that 14 teams sent offers in on this guy, clearly I owe some explanations.
Reasons
- This contract provides RIDICULOUS flexibility on Jagr's part. He gets GOOD money, yes, but he also has the option to leave to UFA if he is not happy with here the team is going or has been.
- Jagr is aware that the Cup-winning trend in the NHL lately has been teams laced with youth, with a touch of veteran leadership. Jagr feels the Oilers have all the components to be a Cup winner this year. And again. And again over the next 6 years. And if not, HE CAN LEAVE.
- Jagr has, in reality, expressed an interest in the Edmonton Oilers. I hate to say it, but in the VERY end, when the decision became impossible, that was the tipping point.
I want to add this was the absolute HARDEST UFA contract I have ever had to decide on. There were about 5 excellent offers that would have easily landed him any other time. And the top 3 (Flames, Predators being the other two) offers were incredible through-and-through.
A SERIOUS thank you to all of you who put in these amazing offers and write-ups and everything and made me take a fucking hour to sign this bastard. I wish you could all have the damn guy.
Also, the stupid Trade Whisperer in the c-box was: a) not me, and b) NOT informed of ANY of this process, as I have been humming and hawing over it for a fricken hour in my dank, dark basement.. Alone, contemplating in solitude.
