Every season, I get this type of stuff in my inbox for extensions.
General Contract Negotiation from team 1 "____ should stay for hometown discount, we drafted him 8 years ago, etc"
PR accepts.
General Contract negotiation from a different team, possibly the next season "Well, _____ makes 6M and there is no way I am paying my guy more than that"
Do you know what the result of this combination is?
PEOPLE ASK FOR MORE MONEY LEAGUE WIDE!!!
I get annoyed with Contract negotiation number 2 (cause it happens EVERY season) and I stop doing ANY home town discounts. PLUS, i get A LOT more strict with how far down I will negotiate a contract for a producing forward.
If you are going to cite precedent when you are negotiating, I have to set it. And if a guy produces, i have to set it HIGH.
Moral: STOP FUCKING YOURSELVES OVER YOU FOOLS!

That's what you get for a) offering high, b) not negotiating AT ALL, and c) being a chump.

You missed the point entirely. I paid Kessel what I felt was fair and deserving for his play. People who want to compare to other contracts I think is funny. Negotiate for your own team and its own performance and if the player doesn't fit in, trade him.
