Reminders:- only members of the active arbitration committee may comment here. - This means NO COMMENTS WHAT SO EVER from PR and Nashville. NO COMMENTS WHAT SO EVER! Zach Budish Regular season; 82gp 9g 6a 15pts Post season; 20gp 0g 0a 0pts
Arbitrators: Carolina, Toronto, AnaheimNashville PredatorsProposed Salary; 1M Zach receives a 25% pay increase from his last contract for his services he provided last season. He was a help to our bottom 6 in the regular season but that did not carry over to the post season. We off him the pay increase based on his age, performance and potential. -------------------------------------- Player RepProposed Salary: 2.25M We added a tiny bit of wiggle room here due to the amount of time Budish has had to wait to know what was happening with his future. Comparable players:Saku Koivu (9G 10A 19PTS) - 2.35M (extension signed this season) P.A. Parenteau (6G 8A 14PTS) 2.4M (signed off free agency - shows open market value) We've established the going rate with these examples, and feel our counter, based on these precedents, is not only accurate to league value, but BEYOND fair.

I disagree with the arguments brought fourth by PR. Firstly, open market value has absolutely nothing to do with Budish, because he is not on the open market, therefore there is no bidding war. Secondly, a better comparable than Koivu (older, more experience) and Parenteau (who, honestly, probably got 2.4M based on his name and not his production) is Emerson Etem.
I re-signed him as a RFA for 1.6M this offseason. He had 20 points. Based on this, Budish should be making slightly less on point production alone.
What I'm suggesting for now is a 1.35M, 1 or 2 year deal.
I await Leafs' and Carolina's reply/rebuttal/arguments.

I also disagree with PR's view on this, but I feel the deal should be around 1.4-1.55 for 1 or 2 years

I do not consider any player signed on the open market as a comparable contract due to the competitive bidding. I also don't put a lot of value into the post-season performance as it is essentially another season all-together. I do like the comparable of Emerson Etem, but would like to remind arbitrators that any deal we come to an agreement is based on a one-year contract only.
With that said, I do not agree with a 1M performance as the quality of players the Predators had on their club limited Budish' opportunity to perform at a higher quality.
It is for that reason I agree with Hurricanes and feel the deal should be at the high end 1.5 to 1.6M.
The Predators may disagree with this ruling, but he will have the opportunity to either accept it or fill this role with another player who will be limited to 15 points by playing below a stacked offense. Zach Budish, on the other hand, will be able to continue another season under the thumb of the team the Predators built, but at least there is compensation for being stuck where he is.

That was quick and efficient. Nice work. We'll close this on up, publish it and make 'er official.
Now I can reply to this nonsense: - Etem COULD BE comparable, but when you compare his agreed-on salary, you are forgetting how much work was done by the GM of that team and the PR to get that contract. Plus, it doesn't account for agreed-upon discounts since he was returning to a Cup winner. Usually arbitration comes about because a team simply rejects my counter and says "He is an RFA, I will do arbitration.
- Second, you can not keep evaluating people in arbitration (or comparable contracts from FA) based on their names. It's production we are concerned with. Not names.
- Thirdly, I provide a comparable open market signing and a comparable signing and we still think those are irrelevant? I think if I provided every single signing in that production bracket at the same range, you still would have judged lower.
I am disagree with all you chumps.

Lol well you asked for 2.5 we came in a million lower but its a one year deal and the player gets a 100% raise and can test free agency in one year while pursuing a cup so I think we came in fairly.

2.25. Markedly lower than all the contracts I cited based on similar performances.
Anyways, contacting Nashville to see if he accepts or walks.
