Some important notes about Coaches and coaching negotiations. For newbies, all coach offers are sent through PMs to the Player Rep's inbox for consideration. When/if a coach decides to sign, PR POSTS these in the Coach Signings section. You will not be notified of a signing prior to this posting.
How's It Hangin', Coach?
What are Coaches, and How Do They Work in a sim league?
A coach is the guy who leads your team to victory. Or failure. he can be defensive-minded, offensive-minded, or...whatever. In ManNHL you will need to hire a coaching staff of TWO people: A head coach, and a goalie coach. If you don't sign anyone, you will be auto-assigned nobodies. A good coach CAN affect your team's performance, so keep that in mind when negotiating.
The Coaching Budget:
AKA How Much Will This Crap Cost Me?
- Coaching budget is separate from your salary cap.
- each team has 3M to spend on coaching staff.
- For now, extra doesn't carry over, and Coaching budget is non-transferable.
Information:
AKA What to include in your offer
- Coaches Name
- Current Contract (mainly pay) if there is one
- Last seasons coaching stats if available(W-L-OTL)
- New contract offer
- Again, write-ups mean A LOT. Do a good job of convincing this guy to sign with you and you could get a) a guy who would have otherwise signed elsewhere, and/or b) a discount. But be real about it. And remember there could be 29 other teams competing with you for these coaches.
Format
AKA Requirements of the PM
- Coach's name in the subject line, with word "coach" or "staff" or something similar.
- quote previous PMs (instead of clicking on "reply", click "quote")
- if you are submitting offers for more than one FA, offer each in separate PMs. Failure to do so can result in lost/ignored offers! Extensions can be done in one PM, though its usually easier to do separates.
Notes About Offers
AKA Additional Info you MUST know
- Remember to retract any offers you no longer wish to offer. Any offers for unsigned guys stays in my inbox (essentially forever), and the guy may otherwise sign at any time.
- Be patient. I might recieve several offers per coach and may not reply to you.
- Sometimes PR will mark offers as read before I read them for organizational purposes. ProBoards has a glitch where when this happens, our outbox will NOT be updated indicating I have opened your offer. Don;t worry about asking about the offer. There i a 99.999% chance I recieved it and opened it. No worries.
- Coaches can NOT be traded, but they can be fired, at a cost of 50% salary for one season. This counts against your Staff Budget.
- unless otherwise noted in offers you send, I will always consider money amounts to be a per-year salary. So if I see 5M/3 years, it means 5 mil a year for 3 years, not 5 mil OVER 3 years.
- Please have an updated roster page. It might help you, or it might hurt you, Guys will be drawn to other guys for various reasons .
- if you send me an offer and I accept it, its considered signed and finalized. Similarly, if you accept an offer from me, its considered signed and finalized. If I accept, you cannot PM back and say, "actually, we withdraw that, and offer ___ instead".
- Remember, we do "either/or/or/or" offers here as well. Basically it means you can submit offers to several coaches with priority given to your first choice:
a) Include the last name of each coach in subject line (as best you can)
b) prioritize by number
c) include full offers for each
d) Coaches will not know or care about where they are on the priority list.
Notes About Coaches
AKA Additional Coach Info you MUST know
- For now, You can only sign ONE coach and ONE goalie coach. Budget accordingly.
- There is no master list of coaches. You can offer for ANYONE...as long as they are alive. Remember, guys that used to play the game are interested in getting into coaching, and since their experience is limited, they might be cheaper than hiring Scotty Bowman.
- each position needs a different PM. Please don't include your goalie coaches with your head coaches.
- You cannot trade coaches. I know I said this, but keep it in mind.
- If a coach dies in real life, he will finish his season and most likely retire in ManNHL after that. Maybe not though. We will see.
