(continuing from the cbox) The 2K franchise was, and still is the far superior SIM fun. The game play in 2K is weak. But you can sim a season in like...5-10 mins. On EA, it takes a fucking hour to sim a damned season. In 2K, you can actually do a REAL franchise, spanning several CAREERS. I think the longest I did was about 25 years. I create me, make him 99 overall, and watch the choas fly. See if he can lead TO to a cup I digress. In EA's franchise/GM mode, Everything is slow, and it is about 10 times more likely to freeze and lose all your progress. If you are lucky, it will not then subsequently glitch the file, fucking you forever. Overall, the only changes since basically 09 are be a gm, which is disappointing as shit, especially compared to 2K and HUT, which is USELESS if you have no/bad internet. I was all into HUT, building up a great win streak against the computer (cause online people piss me off), and suddenly, I get a notice that I have been disconnected from the EA server, my streak (and bonus multiplier) was reset. I never played it again. HUT is basically designed for people like me. I fucking LOVE collecting cards, building up teams from shit, and not having easy trade-to-improve situations to deal with (like in franchise mode, when you can get malkin for a 1st and a fucking second.) So when that failed MISERABLY, i was beyond pissed. The cut scenes are IDENTICAL to at LEAST NHL 10, and if you check, I bet you probably as far back as NHL 08. EA charges you 59.99 for a new game every damned year when about 91% of the game is recycled. Imagine if they did that with(i donno what you kids play these days, if anything) Metal Gear, Uncharted, Halo? The WHOLE GAME was the same. The story was the same. The graphics, characters, dialogue, weapons, cars, EVERYTHING were the same....but they changed the way Drake, Snake or whoever the fuck is in Halo walked slightly. Called it "Improved running and jumping dynamics engine" You can't possibly tell me you would be fuck-tarded enough to say "AWESOME, new engine! I'm paying 60 bucks for that tomorrow! And ratings....ya know...you can actually adjust ratings (unless they took that out)....why pay 59.99 to have the company do it for you under the guise of a major roster update? Wake the fuck up here people. (also, for the record, the modes I wrote about here - Be a GM, HUT, etc. are all reasons I bought the EA game that year. They were major additions, making me think they were worth buying the game for.) The other REALLY cool think about (slightly) older 2K games (2k8) is they have Classic Teams. YOu can be the 1993 Toronto Maple Leafs. The 1972 Bruins. That shit is fucking AWESOME. EA's "Be A Legend" is a joke in comparison.

Your whiney fellow that expects them to re arrange the game every year coming out with new engines each and every year, while adding several game modes and making everything 100% realistic and exactly like watching it on tv.
Simply: You expect too much
If you can't see that EA has made great strides since NHL 08... your blind. (NHL 12 and NHL 13 especially)

Unless Cor99 is a time traveler... and If he is I will totally apologize... but because doubt he is... and since NHL 13 isn't out, i doubt he knows the strides they've made... SOOOOOOOOo I'm gonna Call him a bull shitter.
es EA games are Pretty and YES, there are slight tweeks too the game each year. But are they worth spending 70$ on the new one every year... Fuck no... and this is hard to me to say, Because I'm a Dumbass and Buy the New NHL game every year.... EA tends to do things every one year.. if they worked the graphics this year, then next years version of the game will have tweeked controls, and they'll *Cough* "IMPROVE AI SKILLS"
the biggest change from NHL 11, to NHL 12 is that my sticks break a lot more now...
UNTIL EA STEPS UP and Allows for Injuries such as Max Pacioretty, going into the rink side stanchion they should not be allowed to charge 70$ per game..
In all seriousness, As much as i hate to agree with the chump PR, he has a point. EA makes a Killing off the sports games, and yet there mostly recycled goods. if you factor in the money that they get for their in game advertisements (have you guys noticed that when your console is connected to the internet your boards change.)
EA makes money though advertisements within the game. "Honda's Shotout", and the "board advertisement placement" My gf had disconnected my x-box from the internet to connect our blu-ray player.. for 3 months i stared and at advertisements for a Shamrock SHAKE.. DO YOU KNOW HOW INSANE YOU GET COME JUNE AND YOU WANT A DAMN SHAMROCK SHAKE FROM MCDONALDS... BUT THEY ONLY MAKE THEM AROUND ST. PATRICK'S DAY... the sad thing is, i don't play online, so EA updates the game boards with out permission. downloading things onto your system.
I'd be curious to see how EA can justify that price tag. they cover most of there costs before the game ever ships out to the stores.. and for the amount of work that they put into it, the game should only be a 30$ buy.
unless the other 40$ goes towards the NHL star that poses on the front cover... hmmmm

I will read/reply to Oilers later, but cor - when you PAY full price for a new game, it is TOTALLY fair to expect a new game. If they want to develop NOTHING NEW, then they should only charge about 39.99 for it.

Sports games can't be completely revamped each and every year.... MW3, GTA and games like the such can because they need new stories, maps, characters, guns, etc.
Sports games can't be completely revamped and look completely different
1. The game would never develop 2. it would never be completed in time 3. it's completely idiotic

Also, it's not just EA..... 2K, THQ and other sports creators go by the same model. Focus on one part of the game each year. This year was online dynasty, skating physics, and presentation
Go back and play NHL 08. then play NHL 13, if you don't see a difference, you fucked

Pr is right, EA is just being lazy. I remember the most annoying glitch in NHL 08 where it would freeze randomly both in the game and out forcing me to lose my progress. It still does it in NHL 12 today, not as often but it does it meaning that EA did not make any effort to change it, they just tweaked the code a bit and reduced the likelihood of it happening.
NHL 12 I kind of regret buying especially considering I always take the time and effort to change the overalls / potentials to what they should be anyway. It took me maybe 10 first season BeAGMs to get a draft order of Yakupov - Grigorenko - Murray - Forsberg - Galchenyuk ( at the time this was the consensus top 5 ), which I could have easily done in NHL 11 (just had to create all the rookies manually which I had to do for some of the first rounders anyway).
Personally I wouldn't buy NHL 13 if I didn't get an Xbox 8 months ago, even with the online BeAGM mode which I admit looks awesome. Actually if you are playing NHL 13 on the PS3 I wouldn't recommend getting it since online sucks on the PS3 anyway.
It is true that you cannot completely change everything about a sports game like NHL 12 but if you are re-using 90% of the old code and work then you should charge less for the game, period.

I think the difference here is I play more games than a lot of you here. My house-mate is a game programmer. We're aware of what actually goes into a game, and what you should expect after 1 full year of development. Do I expect them to make a BRAND NEW game every year? Of course not. So do one of two things...
1) As Bruins said, charge A LOT less every year, since all they do is roster updates and yay, now my stick breaks all the time, or
2) Start 2-year development cycles and make the game THAT much better.
#2 is what THQ did with UFC. There are similiarities between Undisputed 2010 and Undisputed 3, but the improvements were enough to warrant paying 60 bucks for it. They added a whole company (Pride) compllete with announcers, rules, and fight variations - you can kick downed opponents in the head - it would be like if NHL 13 had the KHL and its full rosters and announcers. They kinda did that in 12 with with CHL - which was good, but its not new anymore). The UFC game completely revamped career mode, added fight modes, developed online fighter creation/sharing, etc.
IN the end, if you look at the NHL games, every second game has a noticable leap. The franchise would be sooo much better if they skipped every second year. But when dinks like cor99 will pay $60 for a recycled game EVERY DAMNED YEAR, then why not cash in on simple people?

It's too bad that 2K's never coming back. Their gameplay is excruciating but the Franchise mode is atleast fun and fast. For the NBA2K series they have perhaps the deepest "My Player" and "The Association" modes in all sport games today. They have interviews, sponsors, commentators talking about your player, drills to improve in both game modes, firing coaches and trainers e.t.c. I wish they would make these game modes deeper with more depth instead of a new game mode since I'd rather have quality over quantity.

KHL will never be in an NHL game, if you expect that.... well don't hold your breath.
EA has every league that they possibly can in the game. NCAA would want their own game, which itself wouldn't get enough sells, and again, the NHL wouldn't want the KHL in their game.
If i'm correct this is the last game in the contract with the announcers, so i wouldn't be suprised to see them get Hughson/Simpson again for NHL 14. (never understood why they got rid of them)
It would have been cool if 2K/EA did a COD thing, and rotated years under "NHL XX" title, the competition is still there (sorta) but you get 2 years to develop your product instead

I didn't say I expected KHL. I am saying (and you clearly understood), that having the KHL in an NHL game would be HUGE. That was what Pride was to a UFC game. We never EVER thought we would see Pride in a UFC game. But they did it. And many, MANY people bought the game because of it.
EA said itself that the skating changes were "the biggest single change in 6 years". I haven't played the demo, but doesn't that sound a bit sad? They change NOTHING year in, and year out. And still charge you full price. Then lately, they have had the balls to charge you to take your product online too, if you don't pay full price for it?!
Total anti-consumer business practice. You guys should wake up to this crap and realize you have the power to change NHL games for the better - only buy them every couple years WHEN SOMETHING ACTUALLY HAPPENS.

Try playing NHL 12 and then play NHL 10. Tell me they are the same game.
They're completely different, the whole feel to the game has changed. NHL 13 is quite good.

Your acting like its the same game... There's atleast 2 big changes to the game each year, and this year there is about 4
- Skating Engine (Works Great) - Presentation (Looks Great) - Goaltending Engine (Works Realistically) - NHL Moments (Very Cool Addition) - GM Connected (#1 Asked Thing.... Is in the game)
If the only negative you can say is there is no KHL (0% chance) that's an extreme positive
BTW KHL/NHL differs from UFC/Pride

Presentation - the cut scenes have been the exact same since 09. Possibly 08, I don't remember 08 as much.
Do you really not get what I am saying with this KHL shit? I am not saying I want the god damned KHL in the game. I am saying that is a HUGE addition. And TOTALLY comparable to THQ adding Pride in the UFC game. We can change it to adding the WHA if you want. With classic teams of Bobby Hull and shit. EA gave you like 8 guys in the Be a Legends thing. THQ gave you a whole LEAGUE.
If you think the minor tweaks you mentioned above amount to paying $60, then congrats. But when you have real-world expenses, like car, mortgage, insurance, bills, etc, you will see that your money is actually worth a lot more than those piddly little changes every year.
If those TWEAKS are enough to have you creaming in your pants, then you should check out this cool Nintendo game called Super Mario Bros. It also hasn't changed in years, and the game play is remarkable.

The reason Pride got added was because UFC bought them.... It's different then two Rival leagues AGAIN though, PR never said that they should or even they could add the KHL to the EA franchise, just that it would be a major change that could attract enough buzz to justify paying full price. We are getting a bit off-topic with a non-issue. lol. Try playing NHL 12 and then play NHL 10. Tell me they are the same game. They're completely different, the whole feel to the game has changed. NHL 13 is quite good. The difference between 10 and 12 should be completely different, hell the whole point of this is that the difference between any 2 games (NHL 10 & NHL 11 for example) should be just as if not have more of a difference than NHL 10 & NHL 12 had if they are charging $60 for it. If the only differences are the ones noted by San Jose then they should not be able to charge $60, they should charge only $30-$40. Then maybe every 2nd or 3rd year add or change something drastically and then charge the full $60. Minor (or even major) tweaks to graphics or added cutscenes should never justify a $60 price tag. What if they re-made Super Mario Bros. 3 for the SNES or Wii or whatever and all they did was added cut scenes? Would that be worth another $60? Hell, just look at the releases of Megaman collections or Final Fantasy Chronicles. Each were re-releases of older games with improves graphics and game play options but the difference was they had multiple games and they released them multiple years in the future after the system they were originally on was no longer selling the games. This in opinion is worth full price: 2+ games with minor changes that are not released or available anymore (that fans have asked for multiple times). NHL 08, 09, 10, 11, & 12 are available everywhere for as low as $2 a copy and they are essentially the same game. To be honest though, if they are making a fortune on it I don't see a reason for them to change, they still should but why bother?

To be honest though, if they are making a fortune on it I don't see a reason for them to change, they still should but why bother? And THAT is exactly my point. If people stop buying the game when they change NOTHING, they will have to change their release schedule. Again, that is exactly what happened with UFC. They made 2009, It sold great. They made 2010, it was only marginally different, so it didn;t sell as good. So they took 2011 off and made a much better game for 2012. YOUR GAMES WILL BE BETTER IF YOU BUY THEM LESS!!! Fact.

EA needs competition. Everyone will continue buying EA NHL because they don't have an alternative. It's been like that since NHL 09 because starting 2K9, 2K was basically a mess starting with 2K9

I agree.
Though I don't think the gameplay took as drastic a downturn in the 2K games as Dallas does. But I still use 2K10 for simming all the time. Great game for that. If you have $3 kicking around and like to sim, pick that up used for cheap.

You look at videos from NHL 13 and NHL 12, and the gameplay has changed drastically.... from playing the demo, how you play the game, and how strategies take effect, it's completely different. They added a huge online dynasty mode, the addition of nhl moments is very cool, made some improvements to HUT, BAGM, Be a Pro and EASHL. They made Presentation look much smoother, added some good commentary which makes sense, goalies are much MUCH more realistic. They have fixed the glitch goals (i haven't found one yet), they fixed 1 timers (they aren't 100% accurate now), skating is realistic now, and looks very real. Speed actually matters.
What else could they possibly change?
