Gonchar would just barely crack detroit's top 6 D. I don't see why Detroit would accept him in this deal when they have no need for a 5M sitting defenceman. They are also on the hook for his massive contract for another season. If people think gaining a defencemen (who would almost certainly be waived, as younger Detroit 5D and 6D are producing just as well as Gonchar) just to move Vanek for Semin makes sense, then we can accept. I kinda think its a MASSIVE cap hit to lose 4 points on forward and gain 7M in cap. But Semin does have more goals than Vanek.... But 7M more?

the old deal was fine because the old GM can just waive Gonch if he feels like he doesn't need him. This deal is good too since Vanek's contract is up at the end of the season
