10.Kalinin86-Campbell86-Buffalo..They deserved a higher rating but I don't deserve to be on here twice, so I placed myself tenth.
Campbell took a discount to come back to Buffalo. This defensive pairing is full of speeding and skill. Campbell is only 5'9, but knows how to hit, and Kalinin on the other hand, can score, hit, hell you ask him to do something he will do it.
9.Numminen87-Shultz81-Wild
This is a solid pairing, but may only last 1-2 years if they aren't traded. Numminen is on the down slope of his career. Shultz on the other hand is on his way up. Numminen is a defenseman which will help shultz all the way, I think Shultz has the potential to be an all-star, but it will take MUCH work. Numminen will get him well on his way though
8.Phaneuf85-Regehr82-Flames
is anyone going to score? Both are 2 of the best shut down D in the league. I can't see too many goals being scored on when these guys on the ice, both got big money this year, and did they ever deserve it. Again, Regehr is a guy who will only help Phaneuf get better.
7.Vlasic83-Carle83-Sharks
Don't be fooled by the overalls. These are 2 great defenseman. They are going to be AWESOME in the next 2-3 years. I wouldn't be surprised if they shot up to 86 after this season, San Jose is in pretty good for defense although it may not look like it with Ehrhoff and Wishart also in the fold. Vlasic is a very good defenseman, but personally Carle is better defensively, and the same offensively, but I expect Vlasic to spurt up quicker than Carle. Watch out for these guys when you play the Sharks!
6.Tallinder85-Whitney84-Boston
Similar situation to Vlasic and Carle, they are both fairly young. Whitney is going to be an all-star in the next 4 years. I will never expect Tallinder to be an all-star but he is a solid d-man that has MANY years left in him. These guys are great in the back end, and can damn well put up some points too!
5.Gonchar85-Chara86-Pittsburgh
These guys will be a great duo in the back end, they can shut down the top players in the league such as Kovalchuk, Selanne, Datsyuk, Crosby, Ovechkin and so on. They are ANOTHER defensive pairing that you should watch for in the offensive end, I don't care who is on the ice for the powerplay for Pittsburgh, but when these guys are on the point, you better get out of the way, or get open for a sweet pass.
4.Lidstrom90-Rafalski82-Detroit
They are the most expensive D paring in the league I would guess, but to me, they earn it. Lidstrom is the best defenseman in the world right now, no question, never seen someone so calm with the puck in his own zone, and Rafalski is there to compliment him.
3.Meszaros86-Lydman87-Buffalo
Meszaros is the best young defenseman in the league. He is playing with Lydman who isn't the best in his own zone, plays with a steady good defenseman Meszaros, they are both good in the offensive zone, expect a few pucks in both nets when they are on the ice.
2.Pronger86-Needs88-Ducks
They are the 2 players with the most chemistry together on defense in the league, Neidermayer and Pronger are probably the most solid all around D paring in the league, Pronger at 6'6 will take anyone. Him and Needs will excel together this year, watch out for the ducks they are a hard fighting defensive team, they will be contenders.
1.Visnovksy89-Blake90
LA has top 3 D in the league with the Sabres and Ducks(not trying to sound conceeded). Visnovsky is an amazing defensemen in the offensive zone. Never see him make a mistake. Blake can also put up decent points but is mostly known for his defensive play, his hip check is one of the best in the game.
That Wraps it up folks, sorry for it being so bad, this is only #1!!
