Well... this is my first column. As we all know, my first show of the week will be about whatever I feel like discussing.
This Weeks random topic is... Sports Comparisons. You know, comparing past players to current players. It's just when they played in 2 different time periods, it puts alot into perspective. For example - comparing Sidney Crosby to Wayne Gretzky. 2 different time periods. Gretzky played when defensive teams were the better ones, Crosby plays where is offense comes first. Or if somebody were to break Montreal's point record (132 pts) or Detroit's wins (62).
Back when those records were set, there were no shootouts, there were games where both teams walked away with only a single point. Equipment was different (more less just the goalie stuff though), so really... if a team was to get 133+ points, and 63+ Wins... who really holds the record? Because Montreal and Detroit both had to Win in regulation or OT. If they didn't they would leave with no points, or only a single point.
As much as I support the shootout, seeing a tie once in a while wouldn't be that bad.
So more less, if your too lazy to read that entire thing my point is what do you think about comparing sports players/teams from 2 different time periods?

I disagree about Gretzky and defencive teams. During Gretz's peak, the league GAA was probably around 4...4.5. Insanely high compared to now a days. That also plays a factor, points-wise.
And I totally agree with the last part. Inevitably, Brodeur will break Roy's wins record, and, frankly, it won;t mean shit to me. But its still better than one of these "young'uns" breaking thme, when they will have spent most of their career in a shoot-out NHL.
Good work Florida.
