Hey, this is the Vancouver Canucks talking about the Toronto Maple Leafs, good and bad (obviously, i'm referring to the good ones as the ones here, cause they're good, and the bad one's as the one's in real life cause they're bad). Note: When I am talking about the Leafs here they will be the Leafs, the Leafs in real life will be nicknamed as TML. I will probably be doing many quick updates during a period of time, day or week....could vary. (That means I will be modifying my posts). There has been some noise aroused today and yesterday throughout the hockey world by the Torontonians.
TML: Yesterday AND today, they have made some waves. Yesterday, they hired former Leaf great, Joe Niewendyk as a special assistant to leaf Gm Cliff Fletcher. I think this is a great move, as they have now brought back 2 old faces (Cliff and Joe). I THINK that Niewendyk's "special assistant" role wilt be to help Fletcher with a lot of the new additions that have been made to the nhl since he was active last. Also staying with new, Joe has a lot of connections in the new nhl, which Cliff lacks. Now, today it seems as though the leafs have signed Rumored defenseman Jonas Frogren. He has come from the same team as just as coveted d-man Fabiun Brunnstrum, so we'll see I guess. It doesn't look like a lot of $ at all.
Leafs: They have just traded 4'th liner/minor leaguer plus 2 5'th round draft picks for 2'nd liner Kyle Calder. Great move for the Leafs, as they get rid of a semi-useless minor leaguer and very low draft picks for a great up and coming player. The leafs and the Edmonton oilers are seeking approval of their very recent trade for Brad Richards, Brad Stuart, Micheal Nylander and a 2nd (From Dallas) 09
for
Gagner, Cogliano. I'm not gunna go straight forward on a decision for this one guys. They give up 2 huge cornerstones of their franchise for some well needed vertans in the room and a pick. I think it will definitely pay off in the short term, but what will be be thinking about this a couple seasons down the road? Their last recent trade was also with the devils, where they traded a couple veterans in Hecht and Del Zotto for two NEW young stars of this franchise. I guess it's too bad I didn't look at all the trades before I stared typing, because this trade very much evens out with the Edmonton trade, where this time they are shipping out the old uns and bringing in the new.
Schenn looks like a very promising young man for the Leafs and the TML
