The KHL, after expanding to 16 teams, has now announced that with the lack of team establishment for fanbase is losing money. ManNHL had lost over 30% in revenue since the KHL's poaching of players and left ManNHL to a rash decision to drop the cap to below 50M. A meeting took place and league wide vote was used to go with a 60M cap and teams willing fight through the hard times of the economy.
Now, it's the KHL's turn. What was once an 80M dollar cap has dropped 25% to 60M. High profile players who signed on for one year deals, and young superstars who have come into their contract free agency periods are finding doors to be closed, and not by choice.
Top defensive prospect, Justin Andrews, has fled to Vancouver and signed on a 5 year 25M dollar contract. He was offered, at the highest, 3.75M for 10 years in the KHL to solidify him long-term, but he found more money in Man and thus fled.
There are other players who left ManNHL who are looking to make a comeback, such as: Jarmir Jagr (last season) and now former teammate Martin Straka, as well as a possible search for relocation of young dynamic goaltender Ray Neoldfield. Ray agreed to a one year deal by way of arbitration with the Roman Torpedoes and thus has found himself to be a free agent. He's been offered short term contracts at 4 and 5M per season, but he's believed to be looking for 5 years+ at an average of 6 to 7M per season. Teams who are looking for a young goaltender with huge potential are more than interested. It's just a matter of affording his talent.
The next few weeks should be interesting in terms of the foundation for the KHL and its players.
