okay, so its a one-sided fight, but he makes more money than me, so I'm ok with that.
Alexander Semin said this of Crosby "I don't see anything special there. Yes, he does skate well, has a good head, good pass. But there's nothing else. Even if you compare him to Patrick Kane from Chicago..(Kane) is a much more interesting player. The way he moves, his deking abilities, his thinking on the ice and his anticipation of the play is so superb."
I tend to agree whole-heartedly. Crosby is a fine player. He is NOT the next Gretzky, and never will be. No one probably ever will be, but that's another story.
Right now, Crosby and Malkin SHOULD BE producing the points Gretzky-Kurri etc, produced IF they are the next anything. But they aren't. And Crosby is currently hurt AGAIN. For me, he is not really living up to the hype, and probably never will unless he and Malkin get their act together and start racking up serious points.
More from Semin: "I think that if you take any player, even if he is "dead wood," and start promoting him, you'll get a star," he told Yahoo! Sports. "Especially if he scores 100 points. No one is going to care about anyone else. No one is going to care whether he possesses great skill. Let's say you put someone in front of the net and let him deflect pucks in, and he scored 50 goals; everyone will say "Wow!" and then hand him a $10 million per year contract. That's what they like here."
Also of note, as of this writing, Semin has more points than Crosby.......in less games........soooooooooooooooooooo.......................

Gretzky played in a time where goalies were really bad and players werent even that fit, Crosby is playing in a time where goalies have huge equitment and with bigger players... everyone is in shape not like when Gretzky played.

When I look at the Vezina trophy winners during Gretzky's time, I can't help but assume you are a moron: Billy Smith Pete Peeters Tom Barrasso Pelle Lindbergh John Vanbiesbrouck Ron Hextall Grant Fuhr Patrick Roy Ed Belfour Dominik Hasek And Marty Brodeur was also around. Not sure what your "bigger players" argument has to do with anything at all...And I don;t consider Marty McSorely or Bob Probert overly small guys..... Overall I think you young'ns have a lot to learn about hockey history. Even recent history like Gretzky.

Well you could make the argument that during that period, there were just more goals being scored. You can tell by the stats leaders. It wasn't just Gretztky who was getting huge amounts, there were many.

1985-86 - points Leaders 1 Wayne Gretzky, Edmonton..........215 2 Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh........141 Lemieux's great, but can we really say Gretzky's "not that good" when he gets 74 more points then the next best guy? They are playing at the same time, and this is Mario Fucking Lemieux we're talking about - no slouch.

Looking at all the numbers, and other players, I can forgive about 30 points. Which still leaves Gretzky hitting 170s...Crosby is no where near that.

Just making one thing clear. I cannot deny the fact that Gretzky is the all-time greatest player in the game and even in this current era he would still probably be the best.
But for the sake of argument, we were also in a different era of this game. Goalies are bigger, get more padding, players are bigger as well. But the true idea I want to point out is that if you touched Gretztky, you would probably die. I don't think Crosby has that same luxury with the backup he has in the Pens.

Yup, but that said, maybe Crosby should toughen up a bit. Ovechkin's doin' fine. And, as Semin says, Crosby is not that exciting to watch. Ovechkin is. Even Jason Blake has his moments for fuck sakes. Crosby is not that interesting, or exciting really. He just kinda exists. And plays with other stars. Thus, inflating his numbers and salary. He is not the Penguins the way Gretzky was the oilers, regardless of what era we are looking at.

I don't follow Pitsburgh hockey, but how often has he been on a line with Malkin. I recall his wingers being players like Malone, Dupuis and Satan (this year). He only had last season with a first liner in Hossa.

Plus, as I said before, the guy isn;t even leading the team right now...so why aren;t we talking about Malkin being the next Gretzky? I lkie crosby AND HE IS EXCITING. YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME. CROSBY NOT EXCITING? hahahahahaha lmao his passes are flippen amazing I tend to believe you know next to nothing about hocey in general and even less about players who have played in the past. In their primes, Theoren Fleury, and Pavel Bure were about the epitome of exciting. Crosby's passing is not that exciting, they are just not bad passes. Guys like Gretzky could make passing exciting, as could certain "Legions", or Dynamic Duos in the 90's. Guys like K. Stevens-Lemieux and Jagr could often make some amazing passes. Crosby is just a good passer. There is a big difference between good and exciting. Go watch some DOn Cherry/Rock'em Sock'em tapes. Check out what you missed lad. It's gold.

There obisuly are gonna be hall of famers from those times because its there is a induction ceromony each year... but the players now are bigger, better and dont puck hog like gretzky because they would get benched (not saying hes a bad player he is the best to ever play).

You do know assists do come of rebounds to, and puck hogging has nothing to do with assists.

K, I am stopping cause you BOTH know FUCK ALL about hockey, Gretzky or anything at all! Gretzky is WIDELY know for parking himself behind the net and waiting for guys to get in just the right spot...if you don;t know this, I say we ban you on fucking principle. You can;t say a god damn thing about Crosby compared to Gretzky unless you know something about either. And clearly you don't. So we're done, and you lose, as a result of complete and utter ignorance.
