Kolzig has informed me that his agreement to 3M was a pay cut in order to build a solid team around him IN WASHINGTON. He was told by Washington management that he would be a big part of the team in the years to come. As such, if he is traded to Dallas, he wishes to renegotiate his contract.

Haha, ok well that was what he was lead to believe, so if he is traded, he will either renegotiate his contract for a non-pay cut, or retire. Or so he says...

sure he can. he has an extension in place for WASHINGTON, which he feels he was mislead towards. Having played for Washington for nearly 20 years, he feels this move was very disrespectful.

I would like everyone to note that Kolzig was trying to discuss this matter with managements prior to the announcement that shook the league, but everyone yelled at him for even THINKING about renegotiating his contract. And again, the whole reason for this was mainly because the extension was negotiated so soon before the trade, leaving Kolzig (a near-20-year veteran of Washington) feeling misled and cheated.
