Rumours have it that verteran goalie Tim Thomas may be on his way out of Boston. Only a couple weeks after a failed trade effort by Boston to send Thomas to the Maple Leafs in a 6 person deal, it looks like Thomas might still be heading for the great white north. Only instead of staying in the North East division Thomas is likely to end up out west.
Oilers Insider has this to say: "According to reports the Oilers and the Bruins are very close to completing a deal for Tim Thomas, who is being shopped league-wide by the Boston Bruins. GM Cor denies this though.". Cor replied: "We've talked to them, but its only in the what-would-it-take stage.".
With Edmonton's back and forth with their goalies and the inability to find a dominate no.1 goalie, Thomas would fill a hole the Oilers need to make that final push, which would be great but it looks like in a 'cock-block' type move, Calgary's GM jmcook may be looking to pry Thomas away from Edmonton in a calculated plan to hinder Edmonton's playoff chances.
jmcook had this to say: "I'm tryin g to trade for Thomas to be my backup becuase my team only gets beat when Kipper is injured. That seems to be a lot lately" then went on to say "The teams that lose in the playoffs will be becuase there starters are injured".
Could this be the start of a massive bidding war or is Calgary going to be unable to give up the resources for a backup goalie or is this just Calgary's way of making Edmonton pay more to get the man they want.
