If ever there was a ManNHL off-season that featured elite talent up for grabs, it's this one. With rumours that the cap WILL be going UP (a lot) there's definitely some play room for many teams to get their bidding papers out.
Notables:
Brian Rafalski - At 38 years of age, the veteran won't be seeing any long-term deals, but teams ready to contend for a cup will look heavily at his 17G 29A 46PTS last season, good enough to earn him a nomination for the Norris Trophy.
Scott Niedermayer - 9G 26A 35PTS - he won the Norris last season and continues to be a force.
Jarmir Jagr - 20G 11A 31PTS - In a season that watched all production dip, Jagr continued to be a stand out in Edmonton notching 20 goals.
Marek Zidlicky - 11G 21A 32PTS - Another stand out defenceman, Zidlicky proved he's still got a ton of talent left in the tank.
Mark Streit - 9G 29A 38PTS - Arguably the best player on the Islanders lat season, Mark Streit continues to lead by example.
Daniel Alfredsson - 22G 14A 36PTS - Much like Jagr, Alfredsson does not seem to be slowing as he nears the age of 40. He's a stop-gap captain for any team.
Sergei Gonchar - 17G 20A 37PTS - Another high scoring defenceman, no one can say Gonchar's career ended after he left Pittsburgh.
Tuomo Ruutu - 14G 7A 21PTS - Struggling to find his groove and spending most of the year on Carolina's third line, Tuomo Ruutu still has the goal scoring touch to be a threat on a solid second line.
Ed Jovanovski - 9G 9A 18PTS - At 35 years of age, JovoCop still shows excellent two-way game for a team looking for leadership on the back-end.
Colby Armstrong - 2G 2A 4PTS - Great leader and a super pest, Armstrong isn't paid to score goals, he's paid to shut down the offence and draw penalties.
Marc-Eduard Vlasic - 3G 2A 5PTS - He only played 12 GAMES! Yes, in a full season, Vlasic was on his way to scoring 35+ points. If given the ice-time, this 24 year old is a sure bet to shine.
Pierre-Marc Bouchard - 23G 18A 41PTS - Arguably the prize of this year's free agency crop, Bouchard is a young centerman who finally found his groove with a team-leading 41 point affair, good enough to earn Florida's first post-season run in over a decade.
Brendan Morrow - 16G 11A 27PTS - What's left to say? Yes, he is available, let the offers fly.
