Clearly he went too far... you can't accuse them of cheating even if they were without actual proof. We've all felt at one point or another that the NHL had an agenda regarding a game or playoff series, but without proof you get what you get for spouting off.
Upon saying the above, I also believe that an organization or person can show no greater sign of weakness than not allowing people to speak out both for and against it. Give the public and the commentators some trust- we're not all idiots and we can recognize an idiot when we hear one. If what he's saying is bullshit, then you have nothing to fear. When you over react it screams "maybe he's got something there".
