It's those three letters that strike fear and anger into the hearts of hockey fans, casual and hectic alike, when the CBA looms over the league with the potential to shut down for a season. Fortunately, after the debacle that ensued after ManNHL Season 2 in the Fall of 2008, the CBA isn't likely to play a significant role in damaging and slowing the progress the league has taken since April of 2011.
Still, as the playoffs near a close and one of the Boston Bruins or Anaheim Ducks take home the Stanley Cup, many issues will be on the table for the GMs of ManNHL to discuss. A few are league rules, as well as some changes to the game - such as the hybrid icing rule which has made its way around the league over the past few weeks - but one major shift could be in place - Realignment.
When the Winnipeg Jets moved from Atlanta, there was speculation the divisions would be shifted into a four tier method and the possibility of expansion, but then came the decline in activity for teams such as the often ownership-changing Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues, and Detroit Red Wings... and I guess also the everlasting conflict that is the Ottawa Senators.
It pushes the league into the new decision to maintain the status quo, or alter the current formation of divisions and conferences to better suit the travel of clubs as well as potential rivalry match-ups.
Finally, the salary cap will be much debated. A successful season could mean a rise, but the lack of a full league could mean staying at the imposed 67M cap currently available to clubs, or even a decline by as much as 5M, which could prove to be devastating for teams building on the premise that the cap is what it is and might improve.
Nonetheless, with the CBA looming, and likely just a week away from being handled, there will be much to be said.
Please post your comments regarding any issues involved in this thread or in general you feel the league must address prior to the start of Season 7.
