This rule was buried a while ago and I forgot to move it back here so I just decided to re-post what our rules are for buy-outs.
When buying out a player, a team must first post that player in an Unconditional Waiver thread. Essentially, the same way you would post any player on waivers, even if said players has a NMC. If the players does NOT have a NMC, he can be claimed off waivers prior to you buying him out by a team that does not wish to re-negotiate a contract with said player. If a player DOES have a NMC, you must include that information in the waiver thread and the player is essentially just sitting there specifically to be bought out and no team can place a claim.
When you post this thread, you must claim in the thread that the player is waived for the intention of buying him out.
Upon 24 hours concluding, and said player is not claimed, that player immediately becomes a free agent.
The team that bought out said player takes half of the annual average of the contract and that amount counts toward the club's salary cap for 1 season.
There are no limitations in ManNHL as to WHEN you can buy out a player, but a player cannot be bought between the trade deadline and the conclusion of that year's playoffs. You may buy-out a player prior to the deadline, and that player's half annual salary will count against your cap for the duration of the remainder of that season only.
Ex:
Mike Aldred 5M to be bought out. Has a NMC, so no one can claim him.
24 hours expires on Mike Aldred's waiver placement.
Mike Aldred becomes free agent.
Mike Aldred's "now" former team takes a hit of 2.5M for the remainder of that season only.
Mike Aldred's team has not effectively freed up 2.5M for the remainder of that season.
Very simple procedure.
Important Note: Team's must keep their former player's name on their roster along with their half-annual cap hit to count against their cap. If a player deletes said player from their roster, they will be subjected to "not having read the rules" and can be punishment for cap circumvention to be determined by the PR.
You MAY NOT opt to instead keep the player in the minors after no claims were made (if the player does not have a NMC) rather than buying the player out as teams may have made decision not to claim because they can acquire him at a potentially lower price through contract negotiations.
