The Rant, in General
As I said, this is probably more for myself than any of you, as I am sure none of you will give a fuck about the social constructions surrounding infants, starting from wants between their legs to what goes in their guts. Regardless, here goes.
Gender
Just touching on this topic, since its huge. Clothes shopping for infants consists of pastel fucking blue, or pastel fucking pink. The process of genderization begins. The child must immediately learn that there is some definitive, and inherent difference between male and female specimens. In our society, we focus more on the differences, than the 99.9% indenticality of male and female people. Process continues through childhood as little girls are taught to play with dolls, babies, and shit to train them to be better housewives. Passive, nurturing toys designed to tell the kid to shut the fuck up and stay out of the way. Boys get "action figures", emphasizing the active role they will take in lives, further cementing the patriatchial nature of our society, ideally for generations to come.
Food
Breast-feeding is often seen as something mothers should do in a private place in our society. What in the living fuck is in any way private or obscene about someone breast-feeding their fucking child? I've heard people claim this will corrupt their child...how fucked up is YOUR child if watching another kid eat will dement them for life? Get off it.
My theory on this, probably supported by many sociologists, is that it has to do with baby food companies. This notion of formula being better for a child than breast-milk is absolute bullshit. By creating a social climate in which one must feel shamed to whip out a breast to feed her kid, the convenient alternative becomes the gooey shit they sell to you in stores. if one were to believe in God, I'm forced to ask what is better for a child? The shit He created that comes naturally out of the child's mother (also known as the child's life support system for 9 bloody months) or the crud mass produced by some factory who, conveniently enough, can also be found on the Nw York stock exchange....
