Leafs have been busy kicking tires all weekend. They seem to have interest in players from the Chicago Blackhawks. Names that popped up on more than one occasion were Martin Havlat, Johnathan Toews and Robert Lang - which doesn't make much sense due to their youth movement.
There was also speculation that they had a deal lined up with the Phoenix Coyotes and were ready to pull the trigger after a big name player was asked in return for Kyle Turris. The deal fell though the deal was yanked shortly after the Yotes posted a deal with the Capitals - that eventually fell through as well. Tough luck, which is nothing new.
Then, as if the Leafs Gm didn't have enough on his plate, there was another team in the East that Toronto was looking to trade with - A youth for youth deal. The player that was supposed to move to Toronto was a young defensemen - as if the Leafs don't have enough of them allready... The team they were negotiating demanded a hefty price, a price of which the Leafs had no interest in paying. Rumor has it the package looked similar to:
Steen, Brown, Parent, Hickey and a 1st round pick. The rumored teams interested were Washington, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Boston.
There is also word that Edmonton is very much interested in Stajan, while the Leafs are looking for a player of equal calibre and potential. Rumor has it they are looking heavily at Gagner or Cogliano in a much larger package. They also have their eyes out on shootout specialist Rob Schremp.
