Smyth Says No
Ryan Smyth was linked in a trade that would return him to Edmonton and bring some much needed youth back to Colorado, but the 32 year old lefty hinted that he wanted to stay in Avs land and see what he could do with Sakic, Forsberg, and folks. Not a bad decision noting that Edmonton lacks that connectivity between their first line and their fourth.
Crosby Swimming With Sharks
That's right, for the second time this off-season, Crosby has been dealt. This time he was included in a deal that landed Joe Thornton. This has mixed reactions. For a kid who's only 22, he's certainly finding his way around the league, and Thornton hasn't really proven anything in the post-season that is worth noting. We'll find out how this will affect the Hawks this season.
Bring in the Youth, Put out the Trash!
Yup, more than half the league has begun waiving players and demoting the old foggies to make room for the recently drafted youngsters. It seems the entire league is doing a youth movement and it could very well affect the retirement list after the 08-09 season. Rumored members of the 09 Pension Plan are:
Selanne, Brind'Amour, Lang, Lidstrom, Naslund, Sundin, Sakic, and others...
UPDATE:
Musical Jackets?!
It seems that Columbus is still tweaking his roster. "I have been shopping two forwards." It is believed he has been discussing opportunities with two of the following teams: Montreal, Toronto, Washington, New Jersey, Rangers, and Chicago. It's no secret the Canadiens have been trying to unload cap very frantically, and it looks as though Columbus wants a piece of the pie.
