do you guys practice a religion?
do you believe in god?
I personally do not know if there is a god or not (I do not think there is one). I was/am raised as a roman catholic but I think that it is crap and the bible is bullshit.
thoughts?

Okay, so here's my somewhat official stance.
I find the core concept of religion to be a very positive thing for most people. Those who find faith in something grander then themselves most likely are less fearful and unhappy people, I would hypothesize. There is undoubtedly something absolutely amazing about KNOWING deep down in your heart that you will live forever, in a Utopian world for eternity.
That being said, I have an infinite number of problems with ORGANIZED religion, as it stands today. We all know the dangers of extremists (of ANY denomination - not just Muslims - fucking media). Christian extremists do shit like bomb abortion clinics and kill doctors who perform abortions because "killing is wrong". That is clearly some fucked up bullshit.
BUT, I also want to express my displeasure with most religions even when NOT taken to the extreme. I think they can be just as dangerous, if not moreso. Extremists are very overt with their messages, whereas basic church-going and organized religion and interpretation of religious texts creates other, more subtle problems. It creates an ideology that people will follow religiously (literally and figuratively). As such, inequalities can arise and be perpetuated without even knowing it. These ideologies are then passed on to children, and become a continuing and growing problem.
For example. The Adam and Eve story - the idea that Eve was the first fuck up points blame on women, and the idea that she was forced to bear children, and endure pain and suffering because of the fricken apple tells people all kinds of crap: 1) child birth is a punishment, not a blessing. 2) women, or at least the FIRST EVER woman, was an inferior entity to Adam, who was strong enough to resist the urge - until Eve tempted him - more stereotyping in that - different issue though...
A lot of Western religions i have been exposed to tend to believe in "traditional" families, which puts the woman at home doing dishes and spending time with children, and men at work, providing for them. This can be limiting to young women who would otherwise be interested in pursuing a career, or NOT having to raise a kid essentially on her own. Furthermore, it tends to genderize things such as child care as a feminine activity, and removes men from the care-giving role in his child's life.
FURTHERMORE, this "traditional" bullshit leads to anti-homosexuality in many (though not all) organized religions. It seems to actively promote hate towards homosexuals because of that groups interpretation of the Bible, of instance. And we all know how I am NOT in favour of shit that promotes anti-anyone.
Do I believe in God? No, not really. At least not in any God that we have defined. Perhaps a God in terms of a collection of energy fields, and karma, and the belief of some Native groups that all things have a life to them and should be respected. That's a tad closer to what I believe.
I will leave it there for now. I yapped enough. FOR NOW!!! MUAHAHAHhahahahaa

Well I am strongly for God and his existence. By the way, I am a Muslim, a full pledged Muslim that follows all the rules, including not eating pork, reading the Quran, and fasting in Ramadan, and so forth. I tend to believe that believing in God gives you faith , and hope that there is someone watching us, ultimately guiding us to do the RIGHT THING.

I tend to believe that believing in God gives you faith , and hope that there is someone watching us, ultimately guiding us to do the RIGHT THING. That's what I would LOVE to believe. But I'm too cynical. I have NO faith in humans to have properly collected and transcribed any of the religious texts used in ANY religion. People are manipulative.

I mean lets get it straight, religion DOES NOT portray hatred toward other people, or something else. It may portray stuff to back away from, and things that should not be dealt with in life. Not the fucking extremists that ruin the religion by going publicly and trying to do shit that OTHER PEOPLE said that god wants them to do it. Honestly... who the fuck blows them self up claiming that it is in the name of Allah (the Arabic translation of god)
Bottom line: RELIGION IS SOMETHING THAT PORTRAYS PEACE AND ETERNAL HAPPINESS

I mean lets get it straight, religion DOES NOT portray hatred toward other people, or something else. But that's my point. It doesn't PORTRAY anything. But most interpretations have some cultural slant to them, often based on the ideology of the practising individual or community. As such, its this ideology that I'm uncomfortable with. It's VERY hard to combat ideology. You have to deprogram a person, and completely deconstruct their knowledge base and belief system to get them to take a look at it. Moral: I'm more concerned about the people who don't think they are learning anything harmful when they are.

Another question... Do you guys take the bible literally? (obviously if that is your religion) I have a problem with people who take the Bible literally, mainly because these people 99% of the time believe they are reading the full and complete and 100% accurate account of God, and Christ, and so on. They ignore (or are ignorant to) the fact that many books and testaments of Christ were arbitrarily removed from, or excluded from the cannon of the Bible. Theorists tend to believe this also plays into ideas of misogyny, and perpetuating the "superman-ness" of Jesus when, in reality, he was a human for much of his life...he had flaws... These books would be very interesting to read.

yes the snake was the deciever but honestly can you say you have ever talked to a snake, also the natives believe every body has a spirit and everybody goes to the spirit world after death, Thier is no going to hell, However, I am anti abortion 4 personally reasons but thats another story... so sure thier is a creator and a spirit world and everyone goes to it.. but, theres also a chance that i could be a baby daddy well a 50-50 chance and his MOM may not be the greatest but atleast i know he'll be okie cuz his grandmother is a pasture, thou im not going to say her religion is wrong or right or other religions are wrong or right..basically they all have 1 creator..
