STANLEY CUP FINALS:
1. ANAHEIM DUCKS vs. 1. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
DUCKS TOP 3:
Ryan Getzlaf - 16GP 6GP 9A 15PTS
Saku Koivu - 16GP 7G 6A 13PTS
Patrick Kane - 16GP 6G 4A 10PTS
DUCKS GOALTENDING:
Jonas Hiller - 1.63 GAA, 0.943 SV%
How They Got Here:
The Anaheim Ducks have come a long way in these playoffs. They finished first overall in a heavily classed Western Conference and earned themselves the President's trophy. After moving past Peter Forsberg and his Colorado Avalanche, the Ducks met the aggressive Edmonton Oilers. In a series in which players seemed far too tired to compete following their 4-3 stunning fashion series victory over the Detroit Red Wings, Jarmir Jagr failed to deliver in his first season as an Oiler. The Ducks pushed their way past the Oilers with Ryan Getzlaf and Teemu Selanne leading by example.
In the Conference Finals, the much anticipated Calgary Flames and the resurgence of Scott Niedermayer and friends were ready to do battle, but Jonas Hiller stepped up his game and stole the series in five games.
PENS TOP 3:
Aleksey Morozov - 15GP 9G 3A 12PTS
Mark Giordano - 15GP 5G 7A 12PTS
Jordan Staal - 15GP 5G 6A 11PTS
PENS GOALTENDING:
Marc-Andre Fleury - 1.74 GAA, 0.928 SV%
How They Got Here:
The Pittsburgh Penguins loaded up in the off-season and brought in Jarome Iginla and KHL import Aleksey Morozov. With a sluggish start trying to find their chemistry, the Penguins ran to the end of the season, stealing the division championship from the New York Rangers. In the first round, they met up with the physical New York Islanders but stormed past them through four games. In the second round, they found themselves facing the Tampa Bay Lightning, who had moved past the Buffalo Sabres in surprising fashion in round one. Steven Stamkos and Sergei Bobrovsky seemed to have run out of gas and the Penguins shoved them to the side as they prepared for the suddenly surging Atlanta Thrashers.
Jeff Carter and Ondrej Pavelec were on their way to Conn Smyth performances, but Marc-Andre Fleury and Aleksey Morozov stood in their way. After the Penguins stormed out front in the early going, the Thrashers managed to steal two victories, but it was clear the Penguins had more fire-power down their depth chart and secured the Conference Championship in six games.
