Player: Matt Taormina Stats: GP17 G3 A2 PTS5 -2 Sitting Jury: Anaheim, Colorado, Edmonton
For New Jersey: Proposed Salary:$0.625M
Matt is a talented youn defenseman who looks to be able to have a great opportunity to improve in the future. However, Matt is coming off of an ankle injury that forced him to sit out for 4/5 of his rookie season. Matt only made $0.51M last year and we are offering him a decent raise despite him only seeing limited action.
For Taormina: Proposed Salary: 0.95M We went a little higher than usual on our end because we feel NJ has gone extremely low on his offers and want to give the Arbitration Jury a fair range to consider. Devils has turned down offers as low as 0.7M, and we feel it's time to move on. Despite injury, Matt has still put up better numbers then, say, Aaron Voros, who is making nearly twice what NJ has proposed. Most players throughout the league in the same position as Taormina received an appropriate salary increase, and we feel that just because NJ joined late and did not have time to re-negotiate with everyone else, that he should not be given special treatment. The proposed 0.95M is STILL a lot less than Voros, despite Matt having a lot more potential. We also feel that Matt's projected role on NJ should not reflect salary considerations, since it is not reflective of his free-market value.

If we are only going by fair market value, not penalizing him for low-balling all others and not giving him special treatment due to late arrival, I would say to split the difference between the 2 dollar amounts. A fair market value of $800,000 for 1 season is suggested by Colorado.

At the pace Taormina was going, if he would've played 82 games, he woud've had 24 points. 24 points is still a respectable number given the amount of ice time he did receive, so I'm going to go with $825,000 for one season. This is a bit more than half, but given the pace he was at, I think it was deserved.

That's true, I Think 0.7 is now too low, but .825 is too high
.775 I think is a good number

That's true, I Think 0.7 is now too low, but .825 is too high So maybe agree with me with my original amount of $800,000?

Leafs, isn't it $800k?
And I find it hilarious that PR used Aaron Voros as a comparison. Talk about nothing in common.

yes, 0.8M. Yes Voros hilarious. Yes, I was doing 5 Abritrations at once. Yes it was literally the first player I came across with similar numbers.
Do you accept this decision Devils, or do we have another UFA?

1-Way Deal, you'd have to waive him
