I don't like Brodeur, but he had some very interesting things to say about this type of shot in shootouts and what not. Pretty sure they aren't allowed in the NHL now as a result of Brodeur's bitching. But he had a good point - they aren't possible to stop.

When I played net I would have just dove at his feet and taken his legs out. Did it all the time on breakaways and penatly shots.

When I played net I would have just dove at his feet and taken his legs out. Did it all the time on breakaways and penatly shots. But if the puck is on his stick off the ice, and you dive at his feet, its clearly not going after the puck and should be a tripping penalty, should it not?

Most refs would let it slide, guys being a douche doing that, and technically the goalie is trying to stop the player from putting the puck into his net
