October has come and gone with controversy, a significant trade and some surprise performers.
The Montreal Canadiens find themselves atop the Eastern Conference standings, while the Nashville Predators are, again, proving they are a strong contender year in, year out.
Perhaps the biggest opening surprise in the standings is the current fall or slow start of the Florida Panthers, who last year were a surprise contender. The Edmonton Oilers have also faltered, but that was expected after the departure of significant veteran performers, such as Jarmir Jagr.
With its stars slumping, the Pittsburgh Penguins opted to move out high-priced, underperforming talent Sidney Crosby and Jarome Iginla, while the Canadiens have so far found chemistry for the duo alongside Sergei Mozyakin, a former Red Wing sniper.
In turn, Plekanec, Gionta and Cammalleri continue to try and find their groove in Pittsburgh, but it certainly hasn't slowed down the 2nd place Penguins.
Here are the ManNHL 3 Stars for the month of October:
3rd STAR: (to be awarded by PR) 2nd STAR: (to be awarded by PR) 1st STAR: (to be awarded by PR)

1. Alexander Frolov - Tied for league lead in points, tied for second in GWG, a powerhouse for Rangers in October.
2. Pekka Rinne - Goaltending leader in pretty much everything, Nashville's backstop is a large part of their success this October. (Note, Rinne's backup has terrible numbers, so its clearly not a team-performance issue)
3. Phil Kessel - Among the leaders in points, Kessel is a league leader in GWG, and is a beast with the Leafs this season. Will ke keep it up? I have doubts. But for now? 3rd star.
