I am just starting this to see what the people of ManNHL think.
First off, I know that the question being asked is difficult to answer. I know that there is NO possible way to KNOW that there is a higher being but, I just want to see what people think.
If you can, please post your answer and an explanation for your answer. (you do not have to do this but it would help fuel a discussion)
*Lets keep this civil.

Let me start off. I chose that there definately is not one.
When I say that there is definately not one, I mean that it is definately not one that has been presented to us through religion. I think that the Christian god and the Muslim one and others, are completely made up just like Zeus. I hate people that assert that any of these gods are real considering that there is no evidence of their existance.
I do not rule out the possibility of a higher being but I do not think that there is some god out there that created the universe and the human population so that they could all worship him/her/it or go to hell(or another form of punishment) if they do not.

I like this comment, when talking about religion it is almost impossible to be civil when discussing or debating religion, unless of course everyone believes the same thing.
Voted on it but not touching it with a 10 foot pole.

All of us at ManNHL are open-minded (I like to think)

I'll be completely honest. I believe in God. I believe in Jesus. I don't care if he's ben embellished over the years, I still believe. Do I believe everything in the bible? No. Do I go to church? No. I had a man over from the Catholic faith stop by somewhat frequently trying to convert me from my Christian-Anglican ways to a Catholic Faith, and he tried to do so by explaining the wonderful things about the church. After he talked for 15 minutes, I finally told him "I can assure you, I'll never switch faiths, and I'll never attend a church for a sermon". He asked why, and I politely responded "because I don't feel it is necessary for me to pay an organization in order to have a belief."
I've done a lot of things, like hold a blanket out to the Lord on major decisions. The story goes, a family was starving and were too poor to find food and in their dying hours the wife begged the husband to find food, and he responded "I will put a blanket out for the Lord, and if He wants us to continue to live, he will help us, but if he does not then he feels we are better deserved in Heaven and not here, not anymore." So he laid a blanket down on the grass and the next morning, he lifted it to find this texture on the side that was flush against the ground. The family ate this texture, as it was completely edible, and the Lord had saved them from starvation.
I've used that method on several occasions for major real life decisions. I even did it to select what school I should go to. My entrance to LU came very late and I had to make up my mind for LU or Nipissing or Cambrian. I decided to put both letters from Nipissing and Cambrian face down and said if a letter from LU doesn't arrive tomorrow, I will accept Nipissing. The next morning, it came.
That decision led me to meet Justin, start this site and have this conversation. I have a ton of more examples as to why I believe, this one just sort of made me laugh a bit. But I don't question anyone's methods of beliefs.
What I will say is it is better to believe and be proven wrong than to not believe at all and show up and be like "well... shit." lol But then again, God is all forgiving and I'm sure he'll just make fun of you for a bit. If I'm wrong, what's the worst that can happen? I lead a full and prosperous life, full of happiness and experiences, both good and bad, that make us all feel human. I say it's win/win.

I voted yes but I have a similar view as NJ about there being a higher prescence but no god that we've been presented with through religion. I've been raised a catholic and believed everything I learned at church etc. until a year or so ago. The thing that changed my views was a point which a close friend of mine brought up in an argument.
According to the bible God is all powerful, all merciful and all knowing. If these are true then what is the explanation for the existence of evil? Either God is unable to destroy evil(therefore not all powerful) unaware of God's existence(not all-knowing) or he allows evil to occur(not all-merciful.) So God as the catholic religion views it does not exist in my opninion.
I love debates about god/religion especially when i'm high haha. So i hope someone else on here has a strong opinion on either side.

But then again, God is all forgiving and I'm sure he'll just make fun of you for a bit. Why would this god laugh at me? Why would he think it is funny that I did not believe in something that had no logical evidence? If anything...I would be pissed at this god for not giving me any evidence that it exists. You're right, sorry, was making a joke. If I was God and people were like, oh, sorry, I'd probably laugh. But why be pissed if you've discovered the everlasting life does exist? And as for evidence, he could argue "I made a guy write the fucking Bible, what more do you want?" lol

Wouldn't it be funny if God just created us for his own comedic relief.

@ Anaheim:
You're forgetting the All Evil is the control of Satan, and thus God is unable to control those effects. I like to look at it different. Not even that Satan is doing it because I don't believe in Hell. Hell is a screwed up place drunks and Catholics invented for moral lessons.
I don't believe in destiny. Destiny is an easy word to use, Fate, Destiny, so bullshit. It's like stating the obvious "whatever happens was SUPPOSED to happen", fuck off. I can break this off mid-sentence and post it or finish my thought and post it. That isn't destiny, that isn't fate. I have full control of what I chose to do and chose not to do.
It's why that whole form of "evil" your friend brought up is crap. Everyone is capable of evil. If you have a pet, you have full control over whether or not you will kill it or pet it. God does not control what we do. We lead our lives to make our own mistakes. If God could control our evil ways, Jesus would not have been crucified. We make the decisions we make. It's up to ourselves to be the honest, caring people that we are and not the evil many have become.
Evil is not of God's control because God has created man, not robots.

if there is a higher power, we as a race cannot possibly guess 'it' correctly. Beliefs like these changes with the times, we once believed that Lightning was a tool used by countless different gods as divine wrath or as a weapon to win the Trojan war. Religion used to be ok with racism and sexism at one point in time. But I guess this is kind of off topic, the way I like to put it...
Is there a 'god', no matter how anyone would define it, ... no one knows.

What does miroslav satan have to do with any of this? haha k but seriously i get where you're coming from. I wasn't using that evil thing to try and disprove God, it just proves, with quite a few other examples, that there are many inaccuracies in the bible and fundamental values of the church. Regardless if satan controls evil or not do you agree that an all-powerful and all-merciful God would stop things like Cancer or the Holocaust? The people who suffered/suffer from those things made no decision to be evil. I think God(as much of the organized religious world views it) would have intervened in extreme matters such as that. I guess what I'm getting at is i believe in God but not really in the idea of organized Religion. Religion works great a lot of the time, it brings people together, helps people choose right from wrong etc but its just not for me. God is really what ever you want him to be so having to believe the exact same thing as everyone else doesnt make sense to me. Sorry i am really bad at organizing my thoughts and that was kind of all over the place haha.

The last man who publically stated to the masses that there is a God was beaten, tortured and stuck to a telephone poll then stabbed. I say "believe" instead of "know"...

"GOD" gave humans free will, and stood back. He is letting us make out choices and letting us try to find our way. Yes there is bad things in the world like cancer, war etc... but we have brought these things upon ourselves. Wars are faught because of religion, money, greediness. Diseases are brought on by a lot of things, smoking, pollution etc. There are things that we cannot explain and thats where the belief comes into it. I am not a firm believer in "GOD" per say but I do believe in a lot of ideas from a lof of religions. This is one debate that will never end and will keep people at odds, because of the free will that we have been graced with
